The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
1979
ICA (institute of Contemporary Arts), London
Directed by Ken Campbell
Legendary production, where the audience were plyed with 'Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster' cocktails before being ushered into a smoke-filled auditorium where they climbed onto a 'hovercraft' (platform mounted on air castors provided by Rolair Systems), which was able to rotate 360 degrees and move around the theatre space, while carrying the entire 80-person audience. Stage hands moved the auditorium around the venue.
