Software

Genius foundation software provides full lighting control functions for either 25, 50, 75, 100 or 125 channels. A 25 channel upgrade version of Genius is also available to expand the channel capacity at any time.

Kaleidoscope extension software adds effects and colour functions to the Genius facilities. These include 30 effects memories (3 are available with Genius), a selection of effect types (chase only is available with Genius), effect control override, sound-to-light functions, MIDI time clock for effects, and direct control of scroller frames, and "intelligent" operation of scrollers to avoid potential colour changes through blackout or Grand Master functions.

Communiqué extension software adds network functions to the Genius facilities. These include external submasters, remotely-controlled macros, DMX-IN, RS232 for ASCII control and remote macros, and MIDI functions.

Overview

LBX is Strand Lighting's new "memory with manual" lighting console which uses the Genius foundation software plus Kaleidoscope™ and Communiqué™ extension software packages. The user-selectable software and hardware features make LBX ideal for the varied applications in the areas on concert lighting and rental.

The LBX console has a capacity from 25 to a maximum of 125 channels, chosen by the selected Genius software version. LBX has an additional feature - manual faders - giving "hands-on", direct control, a choice of two-presets of single preset configuration with or without submasters.

The 96 faders are arranged in two rows of 48 faders, and can be switched by the Genius software to be 48 x 2-presets, or 36 x 2-presets with 24 submasters, or 72 x 1-preset and 24 submasters or 96 x 1-preset. If the LBX is set to a single preset configuration, it still works like a 2-preset board, with an intuitive "hold" function to freeze the channel levels after each fade, so that the state can be re-set using the same faders.

The sturdy engineering-grade injection-moulded LBX case incorporates a self-adjusting power supply for any mains voltage from 90V to 250V, and the console is a mere 14kg (30lbs) in weight, making it ideal for touring.

System Connectivity

With Communiqué application software, a Strand LX manual desk can be connected into the analogue port of LBX, and 12 faders of the LX control become the LBX's submasters. Alternatively, another LBX, or a Strand MX may be connected into the DMX-IN socket and the two presets of the auxiliary desk take direct control of either channels or dimmers.

LBX (with Genius, Kaleidoscope and Communiqué) can operate as the centre of a sophisticated lighting communications network. In addition to the standard equipment such as handheld designers control, compatible consoles may be linked together through the DMX-IN port, or through MIDI. A manual desk can be plugged in and used for remote submasters, or to trigger macros remotely. A personal computer may be used as an off-line editor or as a master ASCII controller. MIDI may be used for live control, tracking backup, event control (MIDI Show Control), effects timing.

Personality Programming

The software packages available for LBX are in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Swedish. Alternative operator interface styles allow the user to type in "channel" @ "level" or a command line sequence with an enter key. The wheel may work proportionally or as a shaft master. Cues can track or default to crossfade.

Channels used for scrollers, non-dims, and proportional patching of channels are all custom programmable.
